Thursday, May 29, 2008 0 comments
Enhancements have been made to both the free online service and Windows application.

Resizing images without lowering image quality is a perennial issue for both casual graphics users as well as professionals, who may need to enlarge a cropped image or upsample a still video frame. Reshape tries to meet the needs of both groups via a free web-based resizing service and a more full-featured Windows application.

The online version lets users add images from their computer or a link, and then perform such actions as cropping, sharpening, smoothing and zooming up to three times the size of the original, with no resulting loss of edge clarity, according to Reshape.

It's all part of Pepsi's global brand restyle. The Pepsi globe logo and name lettering will remain the same, but the background graphics will change every few weeks, many created by those in the entertainment industry. However, the current Design Our Pepsi Can promotion is open to anyone who registers on the designourpepsican.com site and submits a design before May 10, 2007.

Bridging Desktop And Web Applications - A Look At Mozilla Prism

New platforms like Adobe Air and Mozilla Prism are evolving that combine the benefits of Internet flow with the flexibility and power of desktop applications. They are part browser, part desktop app and are extremely efficient for certain types of applications.

Flash, Silverlight and Ajax get most web applications over the hump in terms of usability and are the technologies behind the fast transition of desktop applications to the web. But it’s not clear that they’ll ever kill off all desktop applications entirely. The bridge between them may very well be Air and/or Prism. Read More.Mozilla Prism

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: FIRST CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL POSTER BIENNIAL

27 May 2008

Chicago, United States
While Chicago is well known for its architecture, theater, fine art, public landscaping, and music scenes, there is a significant lack of applied visual arts in public spaces. By focusing on making this exhibition an outdoor one, we hope to accomplish two important objectives. First, we want posters to be realized as the quintessential public art form, because they engage citizens at street level, requiring an emotional and intellectual response. They also stimulate dialogue and articulation of important issues—social, political, and economic. Secondly, we want to help the City of Chicago craft its international reputation as a proponent of international cooperation and communication—and as a strong civic advocate of design. Read More.
